The founder of Wah Har College, Dr Lit Hong Fei, graduated from The New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies. He studied Chinese Philosophy, following the footsteps of famous scholars in Chinese studies such as Mr Qian Mu and Mr Tong Jun Yi. In 1962, he was inspired by the words of his teachers to establish a college. Today, this college ¡V the Wah Har College ¡V stands with a 44 year history while Mr Lit continues to oversee and guide its operation as the college's Supervisor.

Wah Har College is a non-profit making organization and is listed under the ¡§Hong Kong Wah Har Education Organisation Limited¡¨.

It is a post-secondary college, registered with the Education Bureau of Hong Kong (registration number ED1/31569/64).

Since the year 2005, Wah Har College has become one of the accredited Chinese Medicine Education Providers by the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board of Hong Kong.

Also during 2005 ¡V 2006, the college has received subvention from the Commerce Industry and Technology Bureau of Hong Kong Government to provide continuous professional education to registered Chinese medicine practitioners.

Wah Har College was formerly one of the fourteen overseas and independent universities registered with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China, Taiwan and was already providing courses of Bachelor degree level and above to students. This registration with the Taiwan Government, however, ended before the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997. The Ministry now approves and recognises our College Office in Taiwan for carry out education activities.

One of the main focuses of Wah Har College has been to provide post-graduate courses and at present, there are 60 students enrolled in Master and Doctorate degree courses. After the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997, with the signing of the CEPA with China, the college has acquired co-operations with several well-established universities in China. Together, the college has been providing Master and Doctorate degree courses in areas such as Chinese medicine, arts, education, linguistics and business administration. Currently, we have signed co-operative agreements with the following well-established universities:

Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (HCTCM)
Central China Normal University (CCNU)
Wuhan University of Technology (WUT)
Hubei University (HU)

Lectures and tuitions required for the courses are conducted at Wah Har College while research and the writing and defence of dissertations are completed at the corresponding university in China. Upon the students' completion of the post-graduate dissertations and other requirements, they will be granted post-graduate degrees from those universities in China. Other than our active co-operations with the universities in PRC, we have just signed the co-operative agreements with two independent colleges in Philippines (they are the Higher Education Institutes recognised by the Commission on Higher Education , Philippines ) to provide research degree courses in business management and career oriented courses. We work together for the training of professionals of different fields and the contribution to Hong Kong and international educational business. The two colleges and the relative programs in consortium with them are:

International Academy of Management and Economics ¡V MBA and Ph.D. in Management

On 15th January 2007, the Commission on Higher Education of Philippines (CHED) sent us a letter to direct our college to co-operate with Wesleyan College of Manila jointly organise academic programmes for Philippines workers in Hong Kong, in assisting them to gain knowledge and qualification during their stay in Hong Kong. All certificates will be recognised by the CEHD.
